Jarek Kutylowski, CEO and founder of DeepL, a German scale-up that develops AI-based translation tools, has been appointed to the German Federal Chancellery’s Strategy Group for Technology and Innovation (Strategiekreis für Technologie und Innovation des Bundeskanzlers), the German government’s highest advisory body on technological development and innovation.
“I am thrilled to join the Federal Chancellor’s Strategy Group for Technology and Innovation, representing the perspective of the artificial intelligence industry at a historically crucial moment for our society. The potential productivity gains associated with AI will exceed those associated with previous waves of innovation, such as the internet and cloud computing, which is why we must act now, as a country, if we want to fully seize these opportunities,” Jarek Kutylowski commented in a statement. (in the photo) – Although Germany has a strong industrial and scientific base, the implementation and dissemination of AI technologies present certain challenges. However, it is not too late for Germany to take on a global leadership role in this sector. It is encouraging to see that technology, particularly AI, is becoming a national priority to ensure long-term economic resilience.
The Strategic Group, which brings together high-level representatives from academia and industry, aims to strengthen the German research and innovation system to make it more competitive globally. During the inaugural meeting, discussions focused on the accelerated development of artificial intelligence worldwide and its potential to improve productivity in various sectors, including scientific research, business and public administration. The members of the Strategy Group are both government representatives and include Friedrich Merz Federal Chancellor, Lars Klingbeil Deputy Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance, Katherina Reiche Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Dorothee Bär Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, Karsten Wildberger Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation, Thorsten Frei Federal Minister and Head of the Federal Chancellery, both in the world of business and innovation with Thomas Weber, President of Acatech and Chairman of the Steering Committee, Holger Hanselka, President of the Fraunhofer Society, Dietmar Harhoff, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Jarosław Kutyłowski, Founder and CEO of DeepL, Astrid Lambrecht, Chair of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH in the Helmholtz Association, Peter Leibinger, Chair of the Supervisory Board of TRUMPF and President of the BDI, Özlem Türeci, co-founder and CMO of BioNTech, Grazia Vittadini, CTO and member of the Board of Directors of Deutsche Lufthansa.
Kutylowski adds: “It is essential to view artificial intelligence not as an isolated sector, but as a transformative force capable of impacting all levels of the economy and society, working for the benefit of all. The German ecosystem must be strengthened by promoting growth, competitiveness, sustainability, resilience and technological sovereignty. To achieve this, we must take concrete action to harness our innovation potential and translate these advances into tangible results. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Strategy Group to turn this vision into reality.”
At the same time, DeepL also announced two innovations for the world of work: DeepL Agent and Customisation Hub. During the annual DeepL Dialogues conference, the company announced that DeepL Agent is now available, an autonomous AI-based agent designed to simplify and automate a wide range of tasks performed by skilled workers.
DeepL has also announced further innovations in linguistic AI with the launch of the Customisation Hub and the addition of over 70 new languages to the platform.
Considering that, on average, workers switch between apps and websites almost 1,200 times a day, according to Harvard Business Review, losing 11 hours each week searching for data in different systems, according to Quickbase, today more than ever there is a need for tools that increase productivity. For this reason, tools that allow information to be centralised and collected in one place, thereby reducing constant context switching, are the business solutions of the future. After a long beta testing phase, which involved more than a thousand internal and external users and resulted in over 20,000 actions being performed, DeepL Agent is now available to the public. DeepL Agent is like an extremely efficient colleague working with you, according to a press release: an AI agent designed to increase productivity by thinking, planning and operating on your behalf, with human supervision to ensure accuracy, control and smooth collaboration. For example, it can act as a sales agent that independently searches for potential customers in a CRM, writes personalised messages with contact requests and plans follow-up activities. In customer service, it can solve problems, handle exchanges and check stock without the need for human intervention. In marketing, it can identify trends, perform competitor analysis, create content and coordinate campaigns from start to finish. By simplifying these routine tasks, DeepL Agent allows teams to invest their time in more strategic projects. Integrating seamlessly with the tools already used by the company, such as CRM, email, calendars, portals, and project management tools, DeepL Agent understands and adapts to the logic, data, and workflows of each company. What’s more, it can be used by anyone and does not require complex integrations to generate value, all while ensuring data sovereignty and privacy thanks to rigorous enterprise-grade security and control standards.
Customisation Hub, on the other hand, is an advanced platform that brings together glossaries, style rules and translation memories in a single system. Customisation Hub further enhances DeepL’s linguistic quality by automatically enforcing linguistic requirements during translation and minimising errors on a large scale, always taking context into account. This means that teams will spend less time on post-editing. This innovation helps companies ensure consistency with their brand’s tone of voice and terminology, speeding up translations and improving quality. By optimising workflows and taking action upstream to prevent inconsistencies, this solution aims to improve the efficiency and quality of translations. All this allows companies to rely on reliable translations on a large scale, keeping costs under control and minimising revision cycles. The current localisation process is slow, fragmented and prone to errors. Language requirements are scattered across different tools, making them difficult to track and use effectively. As a result, teams have to spend much of their time resolving translation errors instead of focusing on creative tasks and nuances of meaning. By providing DeepL with context, just as a language expert would, companies can rely on accurate translations, faster revisions, fewer errors and significant cost savings.
DeepL has also announced a significant expansion of the languages it supports, which now number more than 100, including around 70 added in beta for business customers. The platform now offers almost all of the twenty most widely spoken languages in the world. In the EMEA region, all 24 official EU languages are now available, with the addition of Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian, Swahili, Afrikaans and Malagasy. In Southeast Asia, new languages include Hindi, Malay, Tagalog, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Urdu, all added in response to requests from corporate customers.
Finally, DeepL has also announced the appointment of Martino Cadoni as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Cadoni has over 15 years of experience in international financial and technological leadership, with expertise in guiding high-growth companies through scalability, transformation and major strategic operations.
“Martino’s deep understanding of fast-growing tech companies and his proven track record in creating excellent financial solutions make him the ideal person to lead DeepL into its next phase of growth,” says Kutylowski. “As we expand our global presence and double our adoption by businesses, his leadership will be instrumental in driving DeepL’s strategic growth.”
Cadoni joins DeepL after holding executive positions at Klarna, including head of strategic finance & investor relations, and successfully leading the sale of Klarna Checkout for over $500 million, one of the company’s most significant strategic transactions. During his tenure, he also played a key role in Klarna’s $800 million pre-IPO fundraising and financial preparation initiatives. Previously, he held senior positions in the financial sector at HSBC and GE, developing strong leadership experience across multiple industries and geographies. Parallel to his corporate career, he also founded MC4 Ventures.
“DeepL stands out as one of Europe’s most innovative companies in the field of AI, combining cutting-edge technology with the most important mission in the age of AI: to fully express human potential,” says Cadoni. . “I am excited to join this company and help define the financial and strategic roadmap that will ensure its long-term success, especially as DeepL applies its AI expertise to the fields of translation and beyond, with its recent push into agentic AI.”
