Emanuele Levi new CEO of CDP Venture Capital

In a note issued today, the Board of Directors of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti announced that it had approved a number of appointments relating to investee companies. Specifically, the CDP board approved the appointment of Enrico Tommaso Cucchiani as the new chairman of Open Fiber, replacing Paolo Ciocca, who has taken over as chairman of Italgas, and of Emanuele Levi as the new CEO of CDP Venture Capital, replacing Agostino Scornajenchi, who has taken over as CEO of Snam.

Emanuele Levi thus takes over the CDP Venture Capital position on the strength of his experience in venture capital and in particular in 360 Capital, where he has until now held the role of general partner working from the company’s Paris office.

Emanuele Levi was appointed by the Board of Directors of CDP Venture Capital by co-optation and was granted the powers of managing director and general manager as of 30 May 2025, following his resignation as general partner of 360 Capital submitted on 30 May 2025.

After a degree in Business Administration in Turin and a programme in Corporate Finance at the London Business School, Levi started his career in 1993 in the Credito Italiano Group in London. He then worked at Bain & Company and Lazard Investment Banking in Milan. In 2000, he began to focus on venture capital, first at Pino Venture and then at 360 Capital, where he served as general partner until 2025.

“I am honoured to take on this role, which represents a great responsibility towards the Italian financial ecosystem and the new generations of entrepreneurs,” Levi said in a note. “I face this new challenge with enthusiasm, drawing on my international experience gained in highly innovative ecosystems. The goal is to strengthen the role of Italian venture capital as a strategic lever for the country’s growth, supporting companies with the greatest potential in key sectors. The ambition is to bring Italy to the same level as the main European innovation hubs’.

CDP Venture Capital Chairman Anna Lambiase, the members of the Board of Directors and the Board of Statutory Auditors expressed their satisfaction with the appointment of the new CEO and General Manager.

“The appointment of Emanuele Levi as CEO of CDP Venture Capital is wonderful news for the entire Italian innovation ecosystem. A highly experienced professional has been chosen who knows venture capital well, having worked in the sector for a long time, internationally and with positive results. We wish Emanuele all the best in his work and CDP our thanks for the excellent and timely choice,” commented Davide Turco, chairman of the Italian Tech Alliance, in a statement, echoed by general manager Francesco Cerruti, who said: “Emanuele’s appointment meets our wish that the choice of the new CEO of CDP Venture Capital should fall on a figure capable of guaranteeing stability and strategic vision to a sector that is crucial for the country’s growth. We hope that his appointment will be a lasting one, and we are certain that, thanks to his skills, CDP Venture Capital will be able to further strengthen the path of consolidation of the Italian innovation ecosystem and, with it, foster the growth of the Italian economy in general. Italian Tech Alliance will continue to dialogue and interact with CDP Venture Capital in the name of maximum collaboration, with the aim of growing our innovation ecosystem and bringing it slowly in the wake of other European countries”.

Chiara Petrioli, president of InnovUp, says: “The arrival of Emanuele Levi at the helm of CDP Venture Capital is good news for the Italian innovation sector. His international vision and in-depth knowledge of European venture capital are important elements in positioning Italy among the global players in innovation. This news comes at a crucial time, when our industry needs a guide capable of combining strategic vision, pragmatism and in-depth knowledge of the market. We hope, therefore, that his vision is consistent with these objectives and will be able to further strengthen CDP Venture Capital’s role as a driver of innovation and competitiveness for Italian startups and SMEs. InnovUp is ready to continue working with CDP Venture Capital to support the growth of an ecosystem that is increasingly dynamic and capable of attracting investment on a global scale”.

It is worth emphasising both the speed with which the government completed the new appointment, a fundamental aspect for the entire business innovation ecosystem and a signal denoting the attention paid to the issue by the institutions, and the choice of Levi, who not only has expertise in the sector but also international experience with a particular focus on France, which is considered a model in Europe in policies supporting start-ups.
