Pelomatto, a startup launched by startup studio Mamazen and co-founded by William Selmo and Ferdinando Volpe, specialising in home grooming services for pets, announces that it has closed a EUR 600,000 investment round. Leading the operation is IH1, which strategically accompanied the startup’s growth by supporting the team from the early stages of development. The investors’ confidence was strengthened thanks to the solidity of the project and the expertise of the two founders (pictured with the team).
A little over a year after its launch on the market, Pelomatto confirms itself as an emerging reality in the pet care services sector in Italy. As of March 2025, it has generated a monthly turnover of around 60 thousand euros, with 940 appointments managed and over a thousand animals groomed, registering constant growth of +25% month on month, in line with the initial business plan.
The company currently has 40 active partner groomers and four physical shops operating at Arcaplanet outlets in Curno (BG), Garbagnate Milanese (MI), Padua (PD) and Marghera (VE). The team continues to grow, aiming to reach 90 groomers by the end of 2025 and to expand into at least 15 new cities, in addition to the current Milan, Bergamo, Alessandria, Cuneo, Monza and the most recent opening in Turin.
‘Ferdinand and I have always had high ambitions. With the support of Mamazen and the investors, we are determined to reach and exceed the goals we have set ourselves,’ William Selmo said in a note. we want to offer pet owners an increasingly attentive, personalised and professional service, designed to ensure the maximum wellbeing of the animals, with efficiency and sensitivity’.
The market for pet services is expanding. According to an elaboration by Unioncamere and InfoCamere on data from the business registry, in the last five years the number of companies active in animal care has grown by 32%, amounting to around 1,400 new companies. The trend is strengthening in the long term: between 2014 and 2024, the number of businesses in the sector has almost doubled (+90.1%), growth also driven by the evolution of the relationship between people and their pets, which are increasingly perceived as real family members.
“As a start-up studio we have identified the potential of the pet care market through in-depth analysis and targeted testing. Pelomatto is the answer to a real need, in a sector where spending on pet care continues to grow,” comments Farhad Alessandro Mohammadi, CEO and founder of Mamazen. With over 65 million pets in Italy, professional home grooming services represent a real opportunity. We are proud of the results achieved by Pelomatto and confident in its future path’.
