Nova Ventures is an organisation that brings together over a thousand small investors and focuses on pre-seed start-ups with a selective and almost surgical approach.
“Too many founders think that raising a few tens of thousands of euros is enough to consider themselves entrepreneurs. That’s not the case. First and foremost, you need to know how to manage that money, but you also need to cultivate and maintain relationships with those who believed in you,” says Lorenzo Ferrara, CEO of Nova Ventures, in a statement. Fortunately, in our history of over 50 investments, we have had only one case in which the entrepreneur showed little interest in the relationship with those who provided the financing, because we are very selective in choosing start-ups.
According to Nova Ventures, a new generation of entrepreneurs is needed who can grow the country with tenacity, preparation and honesty, and the organisation intends to respond to this need: selecting, training and supporting only those start-ups that immediately demonstrate real entrepreneurial maturity. ‘We don’t need yet another brilliant idea: we are looking for founders capable of building a functioning operational machine, even before the product is on the market,’ adds Ferrara (pictured with the team). ‘Sometimes startups find themselves in difficulty. There is nothing to be ashamed of, it’s part of the game, but hiding is never the answer. We have already dealt with situations where timely discussions with the founders have made it possible to save promising businesses. In these cases, investors can be a resource, providing concrete help in emergencies. Having a base of over a thousand members allows us to quickly activate a critical mass that is attentive and motivated to protect the start-up and its investment.”
Nova Ventures’ current portfolio is proof of this philosophy: over 20 start-ups founded with a solid, structured vision, capable of delivering results in the first few months and building trust day by day. In 10 years of activity, the founders of Nova Ventures, Seed Money and Open Seed, have invested around €500,000 and also collected several exits such as Premoneo, Corobotics, CleanBnB, Genuino, Gasgas, Fitprime, Cupsolidale and others, demonstrating great foresight and decision-making skills.
The goal of Nova Ventures, which invests in projects in the fields of proptech, creative AI, lifetech and impact investing, is to contribute to the growth of a new model of founder: knowledgeable, credible and ethical. “We focus on founders with specific characteristics: dreamers, yes, but also innovation professionals,” emphasises Ferrara. “Because intuition is not enough, you have to study. Founders who want to grow and play in international markets must start with the cool head of an analyst and the determination of a marathon runner. The era of pitches full of buzzwords and dream exits in the first year is over. The market rewards those who have their feet on the ground, a clear head and the ability to earn every penny they raise. These are the rules of the game.”
