As part of our collaboration with the Genoa Startup Foundation, we recount the experience of P2M founder Marialuisa Francia, who helps us understand how important innovation is in the nautical sector.
Marialuisa Francia, born in 1990, is a naval engineer, like her colleagues who are experts in the manufacturing, nautical, aerospace and industrial sectors, with whom she founded the innovative start-up P2M (which we met at the last edition of the Genoa Boat Show). She has an unbridled passion for boating and a curiosity to understand everything about composites.. She studied nautical engineering at the Polo G. Marconi in La Spezia, then at the Ecole Centrale de Nantes and the University of Genoa, experiences that gave her the tools she needed to throw herself headlong into her first work experiences: “My world is that of management and industrialisation processes. I am also co-founder of Skyron, the yacht design studio born from extensive experience in the construction of high-performance boats for the America’s Cup, round-the-world sailing, TP52s and Imoca 60s: all extremely technological”.
P2M was founded by a group of young engineers working in shipbuilding yards who recognised the need for a tool to collect all data: to optimise time and costs during the production phase and to facilitate the procurement of materials needed for repairs. With our complementary direct experience, we immediately realised that this system, which earned us selection and funding from Takeoff, PlugNPlay’s accelerator at OGR Tech in Turin, would be very useful in aerospace as well as in the nautical and industrial manufacturing sectors. That’s how Gene.Sys was born.
From the design phase to the finished product, this is how the tool is created: “It is a digital platform that improves the quality and traceability of industrial processes, applied to boating and beyond. Using it significantly reduces the possibility of human error, preserves data over time, ensures ESG (environmental, social and governance) compliance, which all large and small companies are required to adhere to with increasingly extensive regulatory obligations, and makes the product intelligent, traceable and manageable throughout its life cycle. We are delighted to have optimised Gene.Sys, which is already being used on medium to large vessels, while we are developing the system for superyachts.
P2M’s goal is to become the benchmark for software for shipyards and yacht and megayacht fleets: “We want to create simple and intelligent systems, with latest-generation tools such as blockchain, AI and AR, to simplify the lives and processes of those who use them, to support and guide the sector in terms of digitalisation, providing real added value. In short, thanks to our real knowledge of the issues faced by shipyards and shipowners. And then go beyond boating and apply Gene.Sys to serve multiple industrial sectors, such as construction, aerospace, railways, and composite manufacturing in general.
