€1.5 million funding round for Sicilian firm Archimede

Archimede, a deep-tech start-up based in Syracuse, has announced that it has closed a seed funding round of 1.5 million euros, exceeding its initial fundraising target of 1 million euros. The round is led by Primo Capital, through its funds Primo Digital, Primo Digital Parallel Italia and Primo Digital Parallel Sud Italia. Also participating in the round are CDP Venture Capital, Plug and Play and Elis via CrossConnect – the Infratech programme of CDP Venture Capital’s National Accelerator Network – 40Jemz Ventures and Irritec.

Founded in 2024 by Riccardo Puglisi, Alessandro Basile and Ferdinando Anselmi (pictured), Archimede has developed ArchMesh, a modular plug-and-play kit for the management and monitoring of critical infrastructure in off-grid environments. The solution integrates the following into a single stack: predictive energy management, multi-constellation satellite connectivity and a low-code software platform, enabling two-way control of distributed plants and assets, even in areas without reliable terrestrial coverage. By simplifying the adoption of satellite connectivity, energy management and software automation, Archimede aims to transform isolated infrastructure into smart, monitorable nodes, thereby contributing to the operational resilience of increasingly distributed industrial and infrastructure supply chains.

The product is designed for use across a range of sectors, from agriculture to oil and gas, from logistics to public infrastructure, right through to defence, and has been developed to solve a very real problem: delivering data, control and operational continuity where traditional energy and connectivity are not guaranteed.

The transaction represents a key element of Primo Capital’s strategy in Southern Italy: the investment in Archimede rounds off the Primo Digital Parallel Southern Italy portfolio, strengthening the fund’s positioning in technologies developed in Southern Italy that are competitive on the European and global markets.

“What convinced us about Archimede is not just the technology, but the way it has been built: in a context where energy, connectivity and access to resources are never guaranteed, this challenge has now become the very essence of their product,” says Mara Attardi, a member of Primo Capital’s investment team, in a statement – “The result is an integrated stack designed to operate on the fringes of the connected world – which are also the places where demand is growing the most. Bringing critical infrastructure offline in the age of distributed intelligence is a global challenge; Archimede has shown it can tackle this challenge starting from Sicily, and we are here to help them do so at scale.”

Alongside the hardware and software products, Archimede also plans to develop an open-source version, designed to lower the barriers to adoption and enable companies, developers and system integrators to build vertical applications on the platform.

The company has already launched projects with major enterprise operators. Among these, a proof of concept (PoC) with Eni Joule is currently being rolled out to test ArchMesh for the remote management and monitoring of industrial assets in areas with limited connectivity.

“In just over two years, we have transformed an idea that originated in Sicily into a tech start-up ready to expand into international markets. We want to make the management of remote infrastructure and assets simple and accessible, by integrating energy, satellite connectivity and software control into a single system. We want to dispel the clichés about Sicily and show that innovation can spread from here out into the world,” says Puglisi, CEO of Archimede.

This funding round will enable Archimede to strengthen its technical and sales teams, complete the industrialisation of its product, accelerate pilot projects with enterprise clients and begin its expansion into international markets. The aim is to transform ArchMesh into a scalable platform for managing off-grid infrastructure, bringing space and digital technologies to concrete industrial use cases: smart irrigation, pipeline monitoring, logistics tracking, remote facility management and the control of distributed assets.
