Malta startup week, innovation in the heart of Mediterranean

Pubblicato il 25 Set 2014

Malta has been increasing its popularity within the start-up scene. With an already thriving financial services and iGaming industry, Malta is positioned to have the right pillars to give the required value to start ups.

Moreover, the interest in the start-up scene is not just local. With several start-ups looking at Malta as a potential launch pad for their idea, Malta is growing a strong expat community focused on high growth businesses.

“Malta offers key wins to the start-up setting up in Malta. English being our first language, highly skilled resource, cross talent from gaming and finance, quality of life, weather and possible reduced tax rates, just to name a few. However the greatest value Malta offers is its community,” says Simon Azzopardi, Founder of Start Up Island.

“This year, we wanted to bring together the local start-ups, the aspiring entrepreneurs, as well as those interested in Malta as a jurisdiction under one roof for a week with focused events and talks. Start Up Week is exactly that. A week full of start-up related events,” continues Simon.

The week, happening from the 13th October to the 19th October will include activities such as pitchathons, workshops on acquiring funding, lean methodology workshops, as well as leading speakers to talk about trends.

The weekend will be a Start Up Weekend that we are all familiar with. This is to help those interested in the start-up space to get introduced to the process and start taking action.

“We have some awesome speakers and mentors coming to Malta, including the CEO of Microsoft BizPark and consultants from hub:raum, TMobile’s accelerator. Not to mention several serial entrepreneurs and investors – says Simon – .The event will be held at Microsoft Innovation Centre, Skyparks Business Centre and everyone is welcome to join, irrespective of age, background or idea. All you need is drive.”
