Innovation is an attitude a life style. Real innovators have a special spark and a way to approach life that makes them able to take even the most difficult challenges. Mounir Zok is one of these innovators and he has just become head of the Sports Technology Department of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

Mounir was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1976 during the civil war, but despite the clear environmental difficulties, he grew up with the awareness of the importance to study and he started to follow the Faculty of Physics at the American University of Beirut.

Then, after an experience in the United Kingdom at Surrey University, he moved to Italy in the year 2000 and he enrolled at the University of Bologna (awarded a full scholarship) and consequently obtained the PHD degree in 2003, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. After 5 years of scientific research between USA and Italy, he founded along with some colleagues and friends a start-up company called Sensorize that was based in Rome and had the aim to fill the technological gap in the sports and rehabilitation market. Thanks to this, he had the privilege to lead and coordinate the technical and research and development team, bridging the cutting-edge technological evolution with the market needs. Sensorize evolved very well producing high level products and solutions that are used by professional athletes.

During the first quarter of this year, a contact was established through Linkedin between Mounir and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and after months of interviews and negotiations, which also witnessed a 48-hour return trip to Colorado where USOC has its Headquarters, Mounir accepted to head the Sports Technology Department. Today he lives between Italy and Valencia (Spain) with his wife and son and he will move very soon to the USOC training centre in Colorado once the paperwork is ready.

The story of Mounir, who still holds equities in Sensorize even though he has no executive role in the company, is a story of success and commitment and shows how it is possible to overcome even the biggest difficulties to achieve results. Mounir lived in different Countries and Continents to follows his dreams, his family is spread around the world from Lebanon to Canada, he smiles all the time and never forgets friends; months can pass without meeting up with him but when your life crosses his again, it feels like you talked to him the day before. Break a leg Mounir.
