Nlcomp brings in Ocean to expand into the workboat market

Nlcomp announces the arrival of Ocean, a maritime industry company led by Michela Cattaruzza (pictured here with the founders of Nlcomp), and the opening of the new rFactory in the Monfalcone Lisert industrial estate.

The rFactory will be officially opened on Friday 24 July 2026, when a tour of the facility is also scheduled; the new Offshore 34 boat will be on display there for the first time, ahead of its launch this coming October.

Ocean’s entry completes the reorganisation of the company’s shareholder structure: today, alongside the founding shareholders who launched the project in 2020, the company includes two major organisations active in international shipping – Ocean and Samer & Co. Shipping – and benefits from the involvement of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Venture Capital, which has invested via the Cleantech accelerator. Ocean’s investment takes the form of participation in a new capital increase, thereby underlining its interest in sustainable boating, with a particular focus on the workboat sector.

“Our investment in Nlcomp,” says Cattaruzza in a statement, “is based on two complementary principles. On the one hand, we are supporting a young local company, made up of entrepreneurs who, like us, have the sea in their DNA and, like us, are accelerating the transition towards sustainable and increasingly environmentally friendly practices; on the other hand, we are investing in a sector closely linked to the one in which we operate, of which we know every aspect and context. This puts us in a position to be a valuable partner for Nlcomp, supporting market development and benefiting directly from the research and development activities that Nlcomp will carry out in the future.”

For Nlcomp, the workboat sector represents a key growth market, which is now called upon to accelerate the transition towards materials and products with a low environmental impact: this is a challenge that Nlcomp is ready to take on by launching the design and industrialisation of a new generation of workboats, built using rComposite technology – the in-house developed recyclable material that offers high performance and a circular life cycle validated by DNV to ISO 14021:2016. “Ocean,” says Fabio Bignolini, co-founder and CEO of Nlcomp, “brings with it a deep understanding of the needs of the workboat market and extensive experience in managing professional vessels in port and maritime environments, and this represents significant added value for us. Ocean’s entry into our shareholder structure represents an important step for our project. As we approach the opening of our factory in Monfalcone, we are making progress in the recreational boating sector with the production of boats and components, developing our first projects in the wind energy sector, and, with Ocean’s support, entering the workboat segment.”

The new corporate structure, thanks to the involvement of the two industrial shareholders, Ocean and Samer & Co. Shipping, places Nlcomp in a prominent position within the shipping and port logistics sector – a sector in which Nlcomp’s technologies represent a strategic tool for steering the transition towards the use of more environmentally friendly materials.

Ocean is investing a total of 400,000 euros as part of the completion of the transaction which, over the last few months, has seen the conversion of capital contributions from Samer & Co. Shipping, CDP Venture Capital via the Cleantech accelerator and, indeed, Ocean itself, totalling 1.15 million euros.
